Graduate Research Assistantship with UNL Tribal Extension and Civic Entomology Lab

We're seeking a highly motivated candidate is sought to pursue an MS degree in entomology focused on Indigenous food sovereignty at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA.

The successful candidate will receive a 2-year assistantship with stipend and full tuition. This candidate will serve as the program coordinator for Nebraska Extension's Indigenous Youth Food Sovereignty Program and participate in research that supports discovery in uniting Indigenous knowledge about the traditional relationship with grandmother earth (uncil maka), plant and insect relatives, with western One Health concepts (human-animal-plant-environmental relationships) in a community garden setting. This position will begin in the Spring 2023 semester.

Applicant must:

• have a B.S. in horticulture, entomology or related biological field
• meet Entomology M.S. requirements for graduate admission at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln

The ideal individual for this position:

• has background in horticulture (preferred) and entomology
• has strong interest in and respect for Indigenous cultures
• has strong interest in collaborating with individuals from different cultures and disciplines
• can provide examples of being self-motivated
• can provide examples of having worked well independently and with a team
